Who we are
The GNICS is an organization of volunteers, who currently come mainly from the parent body of the Taylor Academy of Irish Dance, and which currently is taking on responsibility for running our local Irish dance competition, The St. Catharines Feis, which will be renamed in 2016 to The Greater Niagara Feis. This feis has been run in our area for 40 years (as of 2016). The organization is completely volunteer based and the feis is run from a combination of registration fees and fundraising dollars.
We are a separate entity from the dance school but we are associated with the school by nature of having Kelly Taylor, TCRG and Mary Bryan, ADCRG, as advisors and being comprised mainly of parents of dance students at this time. We encourage participation from outside the dance school and if you are interested in becoming a part of the GNICS, please contact us.
In the future we hope to focus our fundraising on initiatives other than the feis to encourage, support and promote Irish dance, music and culture within the Niagara region more generally. This may include assisting with fees to send high level dancers to major competitions, assisting those with limited resources in paying for classes, finding ways to promote and encourage music students to study traditional Irish music and partner with other Irish based organizations to promote the culture in general.
